Farahs Wedding

Last year at this time I went to my dear friend Farah's wedding (you probably know of her, she blogs at facesbyfarah.com. If you don't know of her yet definitely check her out).

Anyhoodle, last year I traveled the long 5 hour flight from Calgary to Toronto to take part in her magical wonderful day. But it was more than a one day event, there were 3 extravagant events and 5 days of visiting with WONDERFUL people.

Event 1 - Henna Ceremony
Which included a delicious Indian feast. OMG I die... I definitely gained a good 5 lbs that trip.

That's my hand!
Event 2 - The Traditional Indian Ceremony.
In the afternoon I had some time to kill and it was a beautiful fall day so I went for a stroll around the neighborhood I was staying in. I am SO glad I did too. I was blown away by the colors and all the leaves!

Fire trees as I like to call them.

More fire trees.

The Orange! All the Orange!
I feel like I could write and entire story based on this photo.
That evening was the ceremony. I couldn't get over all the rich colors.
Its been a year now and I still love looking at these photos.
The "stage" for the bride and groom.
2 photos of the same, I couldn't pick just one to post.
Entrance of the BEAUTIFUL bride.

Now THAT is an entrance!
Event 3 - The Traditional "Western" Ceremony.
I felt like I was at a wedding for royalty. No picture could truly show how amazing it was. And a BIG part of it was all DIY'd by Farah. Seriously, how amazing is that right?

STUNNING!!!!
Flip-flops provided for sore feet from wearing high heels all day.
A handmade bouquet. WOW!
Her shoes! She HAND glued all the stones on. Can you believe it?
It was one of the best trips ever. So much love. Her family and friends welcomed me like their own. I was so blessed to be apart of her special day.

Baby, its cold outside...

It’s been bitterly cold this week in Calgary.
How cold?
On average we were looking at -30°C.
-40°C with the wind chill.

For my American readers, that’s -22°F (before the windchill).

Brrrrr!!

It was so cold that every morning, by the time I got to work my mascara was running down my face from my eyelashes freezing and then melting once I got indoors.

It was so cold that while waiting for my bus after leaving the gym at my office, my touque had frost on it after only 10 minutes. Full on FROST!!

So cold that the pipes in my kitchen have froze and I haven’t had hot water there all week. (Thankfully it’s just in the kitchen and it doesn’t affect my shower).

So cold that wearing 3 layers of pants, 2 pairs of mittens, a scarf under a scarf and doubled up socks is everyday attire for the week. And no one looks at you funny when you walk down the street looking like a marshmallow.

We are supposed to get a break from the deepfreeze this weekend. Just in time too… I’m starting to lose feeling in my toes!

(not really… I’m a born and bred Canadian, we’re used to this! We don’t like it, but we’re used to it)

Golden Globes 2012 - My Picks for Best & Worst Dressed

Best of the Bunch!!

Selma Hayek in Gucci

Even though I despise her... she rocked this dress. Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace.

Tina Fey in this stuning Oscar De La Renta.

Claire Danes in J. Mendel, probably my favorite dress of the night.

Helen Mirren in Badgley Mishka. Always a stunner.

and the WTF were you thinking award goes to........

Jessia Beil. I can't for the life of me find out who she was wearing... but really, who cares? It looks like an old wedding dress you would find in your grandmothers closet and play dress up in. I will say, the open back was nice but the rest was just wrong.

The days are getting shorter… and the nights are getting hotter…

In a blink it became fall in Calgary. In fact it might have just happened while I was at work today. This afternoon I was driving from one job to the next (I work 2 jobs… I’m hard core like that…) and I noticed that there were yellow leaves just sprinkled everywhere.

(its doesnt look like that QUITE yet here... but give it a week and I'm pretty sure it will...)

Don’t get me wrong, I love the fall. I love turtlenecks and boots and scarves and everything orange, but I felt like these golden drying out leaves were taunting me… whispering in cute little voices “winter’s coming… la-la-la… no more summer for you… la-la-la”.

Those little bitches.

Anyhoo… although the fall and winter are sadly just around the corner, I am very much looking forward to the many nights I will spend snuggled up with The Fisherman. Drinking wine, watching Entourage and/or just enjoying each other’s company. It may be colder outside but I can guarantee you that I will be kept warm!

It's time to get this under control.

Every now and then I have these things that I like to call "arguments with my closet".

Last week I had 5 of them. And it looks like the closet won...

Yikes!

Ah... But alas...I have devised a plan to rectify the situation.

Step 1: Calmly approach closet with an "I'm sorry gift". (Perhaps a new article of clothing.)

Step 2: Show closet that I care about its feelings and well being. (Do my laundry finally).

Step 3: Work together with closet to bring the chaos back to a state of normal. (Put everything back in its place).

I just hope it lasts past Monday...
